“The tragedies keep coming. As we reel from the latest horror . . . ” So begins a new epilogue, illustrating how Columbine became the template for nearly two decades of “spectacle murders.” It is a false script, seized upon by a generation of new killers. In the wake of Newtown, Aurora, and Virginia Tech, the imperative to understand the crime that sparked this plague grows more urgent every year.

But I like guns.

Remember when columbine was seen as something shocking and terrible? lol now school shootings just another thing that happens every other month in America. I’m so glad I live in a country where parents don’t have to worry about their kids being murdered at school. There was about 240 mass shootings last year in America and Americans just wanna accept it as a part of life. what a sad miserable way to live. ” sorry Little johnny, but you’re just gunna have to risk it cause daddy loves his AR15 too much, I hope you understand.

This terribly written book does very little to tell the story of the columbine massacre. It is written in a sensationalist and formulaic style. The events are portrayed through “action-film” styled scenes, the characters are portrayed using “rom-com” tropes such as “Billy was a high-school jock, he dreamed of getting the girl but wait… because then terror struck”. It is awful and seemed to be aimed at the Harry Potter adults crowd rather than actual adults. I would love to read an accurate and serious telling of the events at Columbine. I think the victims deserve a more respectful analysis also.

Yes, the shooting that happened right in the middle of the Clinton assault weapons ban. Seems gun control did a grand job here after all. :/

@Johntice A ban on assault weapons? It’s almost as if they didn’t have access to those weapons, and instead used shotguns and handguns… If those had been banned too, maybe they wouldn’t have had access to *any* guns. Imagine that, in the middle of a ban, they didn’t have access to the banned guns. Like what actually happened.

I like the keywords. I agree with the sentiment. Nobody uses AR15s for hunting. Talk to any gun nut (I know some and am friends with them) and they aren’t talking about the epic hunts they go on; they’ll tell me about the upcoming “war” or the upcoming “apocalypse” or the upcoming…whatever. They have the AR15s to shoot people. It’s the only reason that weapon exists. It’s weird that people will support suing pharmaceutical companies and doctors, blaming them for the “opioid crisis” but balk at gun manufacturers and very liberal gun laws being responsible for the “mass shooting crisis”. The U.S. should pass more conservative gun laws and own the libs.

The level of naïveté in these comments is hilarious. 99.999987% of legal gun owners in the U.S. don’t commit gun crimes. 100% of criminals break break laws. How about instead of concentrating on the people that DON’T break the law, concentrate on the people that do…and punish them to the fullest extent of the law? No plea bargains, no downgrading of charges…just maximum punishment.
Gun bans work about as well as drug bans…they don’t.
Gun’s aren’t the problem any more than opioids are. The problem is PEOPLE. I’ve owned guns my entire life…never once has one just gotten up and started shooting people. I even have several AR’s…and I DO use them to hunt, mostly varmint hunting. They are ideal for that due to the smaller caliber, high velocity and ease of use. The solution is to get he guns out of the CRIMINALS hands…not the hands of the law abiding citizen.

@grond2 Other than an assault weapons ban, I’m not sure what policies you think are going to keep guns out of the hands of law-abiding citizens, using yourself as the template. Would red-flag laws keep guns out of your hands? Would your background check cause you to not get a gun? Would having to register your weapon and take classes on safely using the weapon keep it out of your hands? You said you hunt. Maybe you keep to mostly varmints because you can’t get a hunting license? Are you not able to acquire a gun license?
If you answered yes to any and all, I do apologize but it’s best to keep guns out of your hands. You are the person these restrictions are designed for, varmint problem or not. 99.999987% of legal gun owners should have already answered ‘no’ to these questions before legally purchasing their guns. If that still includes you, I’m not sure where your problem is.

@Malachie520 You really don’t know how laws work, do you…
Laws are ONLY designed to restrict and punish. That is their sole purpose. Red flag laws? You know how these work, right? No due-process until AFTER the fact. So…I piss off one of my neighbors just by owning a gun. Red flag laws PRESUME GUILT before the fact, remove your Right to protect yourself, then you have to PROVE that you are “worthy” to exercise that right. I don’t know about you, but that doesn’t sound like due-process or the rule of law to me.
Gun registry? For what purpose? So someone somewhere can make the decision that I have too many guns? Too much ammo? No thanks.
We already have background checks…and there are HUGE flaws in that system. Fix that system before instituting new ones.
Gun licenses are already a thing…an UNCONSTITUTIONAL thing…but a thing.
I started using guns to hunt…but my primary use is to protect myself, my loved ones, and those around me. I don’t have a concealed carry to hunt. I don’t own handguns to hunt.
Again…laws DON’T stop criminals. They PUNISH criminals after the fact. I could go downtown RIGHT NOW and illegally purchase a gun in about 30 minutes. I don’t because it’s against the law…but that DOESN’T STOP criminals from doing it.
I’ll make you a deal…you figure out a way to get guns out of CRIMINALS hands first, then you won’t have any more problems. By the way…red flag laws, a gun registry, gun licenses, background checks, and gun safety classes won’t do a darn thing to take guns out the hands of criminals. PERIOD. The only things those will do is make it more difficult for LEGAL, LAW-ABIDING CITIZENS to get a gun. PERIOD.
